Michael is a Partner in the Commercial Team at Saunders Robinson Brown.

He specialises in commercial and corporate law, banking and finance, and commercial and residential property development. Michael works with business owners regarding mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and corporate advisory, and working with property developers and financiers regarding high value acquisitions and development opportunities.  

Michael graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2013 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science).

He joined Saunders Robinson Brown as a solicitor in the Property Team in 2014 having previously worked for a Timaru law firm. In 2017 he moved into our Commercial Team and was made a Partner in 2022.

Notable experience

  • Providing ongoing advice to a significant Christchurch commercial property owner on all matters relating to its business.

  • Acting for prominent Canterbury and Wellington focussed residential property developers specialising in high density terraced housing, including negotiating the terms of equity financing from private lenders.

  • Acting for a Christchurch commercial property owner on the development and leasing of a prominent mixed commercial use CBD building .

  • Advising terms of multi-million dollars’ worth of property development finance from first and second tier lenders.

  • Advising a start up company regarding raising capital to allow international growth, including compliance and structuring issues.

  • Acting on the sale and purchase of several restaurants valuing $10m+ forming part of a significant national franchised business.

  • Advising a young professional athlete negotiating the terms of his representation contract for overseas agency.

  • Advising directors of a company in liquidation regarding possible breaches of duties as directors.
